Michelle Obama presented. So what?!

michelleobama2013oscarsSeveral news outlets have been reporting that people have been voicing their ill feelings about the FLOTUS making a cameo on the 85th Academy Awards show. My thoughts are, who cares?

Our First Lady was asked to be a presenter at the awards show. Not to mention, she was asked to present one of the most coveted awards of the entire show. So, those in charge of putting the show together knew what they ware doing. Now, as far as I can see, the people who have been expressing their negative comments towards the first lady and the President, who wasn’t even there, are people who haven’t supported anything they’ve done, ever.

Folks, we are living in a completely different era. While some things should stay traditional as far as the White House and its constituents are concerned, other things will not be able to stay the same. And as time leads on, the things that are relevant today, will no longer be relevant in the future. Just look at how social media has become a major component in the last few elections. Or how once before, FDR implemented fireside chats via radio correspondence to reach the American people.

Everything our, and I do emphasize our, President and First Lady do are under a microscope. I mean the man can’t even grow gray hair without there being a news article about it. Now, Michelle Obama cannot present an award at a show that she was asked to present at. Get real, people! There’s definitely a double standard when it comes to the First Family. Both Laura Bush and Ronald Reagan made appearances at awards show, though it was recorded or telecast. Was there an uproar then? Of course there wasn’t.

Michelle Obama and the President have become something of an icon for many people. While we all understand their important roles, and what they represent, people are still compelled to see what Michelle Obama is wearing or what she’s done to her hair.  They have celebrity status, and the media and the public give them that. I don’t understand what the big deal is, especially when the First Lady’s attire is being judged every time she steps out. If she didn’t have any kind of clout like celebrities do, then no one would be concerned.

I think the Academy Awards did a great thing by inviting the First Lady to present. These shows are all about glamour, and glitz. Michelle Obama exudes that, and she handles her job as the Fist Lady. With that said, maybe the media can concentrate on more important things rather than magnify an issue that really shouldn’t be an issue.

10 Best Dressed at the 2013 Grammy Awards

The best part about the Grammy Awards is being able to check out the photo galleries to see what was worn on the red carpet. I don’t normally watch award shows, and yesterday was no different. However, I do look for photo galleries to see what the celebrities decided to step out in. With that said, I’ve come up with my list of the 10 Best Dressed at the 2013 Grammy Awards (in no particular order).

1. RihannaRihanna

Say what you will about Rihanna (and I will too), but she looked stunning. Everything looked wonderful, from her makeup to the dress. She can get away with any hairstyle and color, and almost any outfit.

2. NasNas

Nas looked quite dapper in his gold, black and white. As far as I’m concerned, he was the best dressed male. At least from what I’ve seen in the photo galleries. I really loved the jacket, and pairing it with the black pants suit him very well.

3. Kelly Osborne

I really liked Kelly’s dress because of the cutouts, and the simplicity of the dress. It was well-fitting, and she wore it wonderfully. However, I will say that I hate that hair color.

4. Taylor SwiftTaylor

Swift always dresses to impress for awards shows. So, the Grammys were no different. I really liked the cutouts, and the flow of the dress. It was very elegant.

5. Kelly RowlandThe 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

Well, Kelly is on a roll. She was definitely talked about a lot after her Super Bowl appearance, and now there is more to talk about. Normally, I could careless for dresses that expose a lot, but her dress exposed in the right places. Although it was risky, she looked gorgeous.

6. SolangeThe 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

I absolutely loved Solange’s hair, and the dress was beautiful! I didn’t really care for the studded heels. Although, I liked the orange and emerald-green paired together, it just seemed a bit overboard with the studs.

7. Estelle

estelleI really liked Estelle’s self-designed two-piece. It was funky, and unique. I really liked the colors she chose, as well as the shape of the skirt. I think she stepped out the box, and took a risk. She didn’t disappoint.

8. Carrie UnderwoodThe 55th Annual GRAMMY Awards - Red Carpet

Carrie Underwood looked wonderful. I was really impressed by her black gown. I liked the top half the most. The dress was very detailed, and form-fitting. She looked great

9. Justin Timberlake  jt

I really liked JT’s choice of attire, especially the black and white shoes and handkerchief. Everything flowed quite nicely. While a lot of men wear black to the Grammy’s, his combination stood out to me.

10. Jay Z

I don’t really care for Jay Z, but I can’t deny that his ensemble was very nice. I especially liked how his jacket was cut, and how the lapels were the main focus. Good look, Jay Z.

The Grammys usually bring a lot of highs and lows when it comes to what people wear. This year was no different. So, I had to ask myself what was Beyoncé, Adele, J Lo, and Dream thinking.? Beyoncé did not look the part. She looked too casual for the red carpet. I did like her top, but that outfit should have been saved for a less important event. Adele’s dress was out there. It looked like curtain fabric, or fabric on a sofa from a few decades ago. J Lo’s leg dress was blah. There was nothing to it. At least when Angelina Jolie showed the leg, the dress was elegant and left an impression. I think Jay Z hit it on the nail when he said that the Dream got his hat from the swap shop. That pretty much described his whole outfit. 🙂
