The best part about the Grammy Awards is being able to check out the photo galleries to see what was worn on the red carpet. I don’t normally watch award shows, and yesterday was no different. However, I do look for photo galleries to see what the celebrities decided to step out in. With that said, I’ve come up with my list of the 10 Best Dressed at the 2013 Grammy Awards (in no particular order).
Say what you will about Rihanna (and I will too), but she looked stunning. Everything looked wonderful, from her makeup to the dress. She can get away with any hairstyle and color, and almost any outfit.
Nas looked quite dapper in his gold, black and white. As far as I’m concerned, he was the best dressed male. At least from what I’ve seen in the photo galleries. I really loved the jacket, and pairing it with the black pants suit him very well.
3. Kelly Osborne
I really liked Kelly’s dress because of the cutouts, and the simplicity of the dress. It was well-fitting, and she wore it wonderfully. However, I will say that I hate that hair color.
Swift always dresses to impress for awards shows. So, the Grammys were no different. I really liked the cutouts, and the flow of the dress. It was very elegant.
Well, Kelly is on a roll. She was definitely talked about a lot after her Super Bowl appearance, and now there is more to talk about. Normally, I could careless for dresses that expose a lot, but her dress exposed in the right places. Although it was risky, she looked gorgeous.
I absolutely loved Solange’s hair, and the dress was beautiful! I didn’t really care for the studded heels. Although, I liked the orange and emerald-green paired together, it just seemed a bit overboard with the studs.
I really liked Estelle’s self-designed two-piece. It was funky, and unique. I really liked the colors she chose, as well as the shape of the skirt. I think she stepped out the box, and took a risk. She didn’t disappoint.
Carrie Underwood looked wonderful. I was really impressed by her black gown. I liked the top half the most. The dress was very detailed, and form-fitting. She looked great
I really liked JT’s choice of attire, especially the black and white shoes and handkerchief. Everything flowed quite nicely. While a lot of men wear black to the Grammy’s, his combination stood out to me.
10. Jay Z
I don’t really care for Jay Z, but I can’t deny that his ensemble was very nice. I especially liked how his jacket was cut, and how the lapels were the main focus. Good look, Jay Z.
The Grammys usually bring a lot of highs and lows when it comes to what people wear. This year was no different. So, I had to ask myself what was Beyoncé, Adele, J Lo, and Dream thinking.? Beyoncé did not look the part. She looked too casual for the red carpet. I did like her top, but that outfit should have been saved for a less important event. Adele’s dress was out there. It looked like curtain fabric, or fabric on a sofa from a few decades ago. J Lo’s leg dress was blah. There was nothing to it. At least when Angelina Jolie showed the leg, the dress was elegant and left an impression. I think Jay Z hit it on the nail when he said that the Dream got his hat from the swap shop. That pretty much described his whole outfit. 🙂

As expected, the Super Bowl was filled with a ton of surprises. From the commercials to the power outage, the Super Bowl did not fail to entertain. With that said, I’m going to break down the Superbowl, and give my opinion. Don’t hesitate to share your opinions as well!
As someone who has studied broadcast journalism, and has taken courses in advertising, public relations and the likes, I must say that I was very excited to see this year’s ads. Overall, I was pleased with what I saw. There were a few commercials that left a lasting impression. Although I hated the ad, the Go Daddy commercial was definitely the most memorable. I knew this would leave a nasty taste in a good majority of the viewers’ mouths. I thought it was completely inappropriate, and I felt for the parents who had their young children tuned in.
Here’s my Top 5 Favorite Super Bowl Commercials (No order):
1. Doritos featuring the goat “Goat 4 Sale”
2. Budweiser featuring the Clydesdale “Brotherhood”
3. State Farm featuring Mayhem as a flag
4. Hyundai Sonata “Stuck”
5. NFL Network – “Leon Sandcastle”
Aside from Jennifer Hudson and the Sandy Hook coed choir, I thought the Super Bowl entertainment lacked this year. I thought it was a great idea, and very heart warming to have the Sandy Hook choir come and sing at the Super Bowl. It definitely relayed the message that we can overcome. Jennifer Hudson looked wonderful, and sang beautifully. She never disappoints. Alicia Keys sang well; it just wasn’t amazing. I wasn’t taken aback by her performance at all. She seemed to have done the minimum through her performance. The highly anticipated Beyoncé “concert” was okay. I thought the light show, and special effects were really good. Again, I wasn’t shocked or taken aback by her performance. To me, it seems very comparable to the performances she has already done. The dance moves mimicked what has already been seen, and I didn’t particularly like her song choices. Beyoncé looked very beautiful, as did Kelly when she came out for the Destiny’s Child portion of the show. Michelle, well what can I say. I’m not sure why or how she managed to stay on as a member of Destiny’s Child. I think she’s the weakest link of the group. Smh. I could barely hear her; her mic was extremely low. Kelly’s mic was kind of low, too. However, that’s neither here nor there. Now, what I think would have taken the cake with Beyoncé’s performance would have been if she brought out the original members of DC before she did the reunion with Kelly and Michelle. I do think Beyoncé is a good performer, and a decent singer, but I wasn’t wowed by her Superbowl performance. And I was kind of thrown off by the Illuminati sign, I mean the Rocafella sign she threw up. Not sure where that came into play, but oh well.
This game was insane and full of surprises. I thought it was really cool that two brothers would be coaching teams in the Super Bowl. It was exciting to see their expressions throughout the game, and how different they seem to be in terms of reactions to different situations on the field. Now, I’m not a big football fan, and I don’t have a particular team that I root for. So, when the Super Bowl comes around, I usually cheer for the underdog team. In this case, I was going for the Baltimore Ravens. They played really well, up until the power outage. That power outage definitely took them out their game. It definitely came at the wrong time, especially after Jacoby Jones ran back that 108-yard touchdown. The 49ers ended up scoring 17 points in the 3rd quarter, thus making it a tight game. I was definitely on the edge of my seat. The controversial play at the end of the game sealed the victory for Baltimore Ravens, making them the 2013 Super Bowl Champs. Overall, I thought the game was well-fought by both sides. I think the referees did a decent job, and in regard to no-calls, I think they did so equally for both teams.
The 2013 Super Bowl was definitely worth watching, and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to participate in a major American tradition.
This was thee best comedy show I’ve ever been to. It featured Jay Pharoah (SNL Live), Gary Owen (Think Like a Man Act Like a Lady) and DL Hughley (Kings of Comedy). I laughed from the moment I arrive until I left. Not to mention, the seats were awesome, which was definitely an added bonus.
If you don’t know who Jay Pharoah is, please google him. He’s definitely under the radar in comparison to other comedians, but deserves some serious spotlight. He did a ton of impressions and he was very good. He impersonated Eddie Murphy, Jay-Z, and President Obama to name a few. While some comedians just stick to impersonations, he was able to tell a good joke as well. I am definitely a fan!
I have been a fan of Gary Owen since I saw him on the Wayans Brothers show. I have been waiting for my chance to see him do stand-up comedy. His act was great! Owen was even able to go with the flow without any hesitation when someone from the crowd started to heckle him. It can be hard for some comedians to improvise, but he transitioned back into his act smoothly.
DL Hughley is not considered a King of Comedy for no reason. Like Owen and Pharoah, his act was very funny! Whenever I watch him on tv, he never falls short. Watching him live was no different. During his act, he went down the front row picking on different people, which is routine for him. This segment was hilarious! I felt bad for the people in the front row, but they should have known better because this is something he does all the time.
This was the first Shut Up & Laugh Comedy Show. I am really interested to see how they’ll follow-up for the next one because this show was excellent! Kudos to the Mahaffey Theatre and 94.1!
